Pastor Archie and Linda Emerson
Pastor Archie and Linda Emerson started the Ocean State Baptist Church in 1975 with just their family. Pastor Emerson and Linda both graduated from Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri. God has blessed Pastor Emerson’s commitment to remain true to the Scriptures. As a result, the church has steadily grown from its humble beginnings with three people in a rented bank to over a thousand today in a modern facility. The Emersons are the parents of two grown children, Tammy and Paul.
Pastor Michael and Jackie Woodward
Michael and Jackie met while attending Boston Baptist College and started attending OSBC in 2003. They began serving in the Youth Department soon after joining and worked through the years in other ministry areas including discipleship, preaching, counseling and assisting Pastor Emerson. They both continued their education with Michael receiving his Master’s in Spiritual Formation and Jackie receiving her Master’s in Business and Advanced Accounting. Michael currently serves as the Co-Pastor at OSBC, while Jackie currently serves as AWANA and Education Director, and Events Planner. Michael is also an adjunct professor at Boston Baptist College. Their prayer is to use their education and love of Christ and His Word to serve God in the fullest capacity. They have two children, Jake and Eve, and live in Smithfield.
John and Jan DelRicci
John and Jan DelRicci have been with Ocean State Baptist Church from its beginning. They were the first two people baptized by Pastor Emerson. Because of their musical training, the DelRiccis filled a very important need in the area of worship leading and musical accompaniment for our young church. John was called into full-time ministry soon thereafter, and became the music minister at OSBC. Their dedication to the ministry, in both Bible teaching and music reflect a desire to glorify God through praise and worship, and to edify other believers.
Pastor Glen and Jacquie Berube
Glen and Jacquie Berube are native Rhode Islanders who were saved in their late twenties. They have a strong and passionate desire to serve the Lord and help others come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Glen surrendered to God’s call to full time ministry at the age of 38 and received a Bachelor of Biblical Studies from Boston Baptist College in 2001. He was ordained in April of 2007. Jacquie is a 1978 graduate of Katherine Gibbs Business School and worked as a self-employed financial planner which contributes to her administrative skills in the church office. Glen and Jacquie are involved in various ministries including the leadership of the Shipmates class, a class for young married couples. They have been married for 30 years and thank God for His work in their lives. Glen and Jacquie have two grown children, Derek & Ashley, and six grandchildren.
Fred and Leah Boothman
Fred and Leah Boothman both grew up in the southern New England area, but met at Liberty University and got married at the Ocean State Baptist Church in 2009. Fred received his Bachelors in Worship and Music Ministry, while Leah received her Bachelors in Elementary Education and recently finished her Masters in Elementary Education. Currently, they serve in the College & Career Ministry and Fred manages the Worship & Communication Arts Ministry. He has been leading in the print and digital graphics, as well as serving on the worship team. They currently reside in Smithfield and are blessed to have two baby girls, Madelyn and Olivia, as they continue to live, serve and minister here in the Ocean State.
Dayne and Melissa Lindsey
Dayne and Melissa Lindsey graduated together from First Baptist Christian School. Dayne immediately began serving in the United States Navy while Melissa attended business school locally. They were married in 1990 and later transferred from Virginia Beach,VA back home to Rhode Island where they have served in Junior Church, JR/Sr High, and now the College & Career/Young Adults Ministry. Both have their M.Ed. in Counseling from Providence College while Dayne, a Navy Veteran of 25 years, is completing a Master of Divinity in Pastoral Counseling. They have three children; Abigail an EMT; Joshua a 2LT in the Army; and Caleb who is a sophomore in College.
Senior High Youth Group
Jared and Amanda Matteson
Jared and Amanda Matteson both grew up here at Ocean State Baptist Church. Jared attended Rhode Island College and received his bachelor’s degree in Nursing and Biology. He then attended the University of New England were he received his masters in Nurse Anesthetist Studies. He currently works at various hospital settings including Kent County Hospital, Roger Williams and Fatima Hospital. Amanda attended Wheaton College, in Norton Massachusetts, and received her bachelor’s degree in Biology, with a minor in Religion and Chemistry. She then moved to Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and attended Chatham College. She received her master’s degree in Physician Assistant studies. She is a stay-at-home mom and works weekends in an Asthma and Allergy practice here in Rhode Island. They were married in 2005, and they have four children, Amelie, Sophie, Lee and Crosby. Jared and Amanda started to work with the youth group in 2009. Jared continues to play the bass in the Praise Band and is a Trustee of the church. They continue to have a passion for serving the youth in our community. When not at church Jared and Amanda enjoy spending time together, as everyday is an adventure with four kids.
Junior High Youth Group
Chris and Jen Knowles
Chris and Jen Knowles are both New England natives and met while attending Boston Baptist College. Chris grew up in New Hampshire where he came to know Christ when he was was a teenager and began to work with the Youth Group while in college. Jen grew up attending Ocean State Baptist Church where she came to know Christ at a young age and worked with children and in music ministries. They got married a year after graduating college in July of 2011 and Chris began serving as the Youth Pastor at a church on the South Shore of Massachusetts for four years. God then brought them to Ocean State Baptist Church in 2015 where Chris and Jen have been serving with the Youth Department. It is their hearts conviction and desire to guide teenagers to know Christ personally and live out their faith daily.
